Help us Recruit Staff by Telling Us Your Top 10

While forging ahead into summer staff recruiting here at wcrc I was thinking about posting the top 10 reasons for being a summer camp counselor. But lately I’ve been seeing the benefit of DELEGATION. So, instead, I’m asking all or our Facebook Fans and other Blog readers to let us know why YOU think working at Kaleidoscope Camp is a great way to invest your summer. Maybe you were a staff member here or maybe you have worked at a different camp. Maybe you have noticed growth in a friend or sibling or one of your kids after they worked at camp. Michael Eisner, the former CEO of Disney said, “I can hardly think of an aspect of my life that wasn’t positively affected by my camping experience.”

So help us spread the word that working at camp is a great way to spend your summer. Give us one good reason, or give us a dozen. Simply post a comment below. We'll publish the top 10 after all the results are totaled.
Oh, and by the way, if you know anyone who would like to work here, send them to our website: http://www.wcrc.info/ THANKS!

  1. OK, I have to say that one great reason for working at camp is the chance to learn lots of leadership and people skills. In my interview for my first job out of college, the recruiter asked me a good bit about my camp experience and I was able to tell how I had learned a great deal about people and leadership by working at camp. I got the job!

  2. I had never given much thought to the idea of working at a Christian camp. Somehow, it just “fell into place” that my husband and I ended up here! Our plan was to travel after my husband’s retirement so we could see the good old USA. For now-- it seems that God’s plan for us has been a bit different. Working at camp has been such a great experience for me. 2010 will mark the 4th summer that I have been blessed to be a small part of Kaleidoscope Camp by working in the main office and volunteering in other areas as needed. I call it a “rush” as the first week of summer camp approaches!! It’s so exciting to watch the young campers come in! Some seem timid at first but as the week goes on I can see a change in them. They learn to share, to trust and to develop confidence. Campers get to try new things, discover hidden talents, and accept responsibilities that increase their self esteem. Most importantly, our camp provides young people a place that they can give their hearts to the Lord. They will make memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. By working at the Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center, I also have had the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and have experienced many of the benefits that camp offers to the youth. I have had the awesome experience of living, playing and working in God’s great outdoors with other Christians! What a true joy this has been! I’m still developing the patience needed to work well in close proximity with others. God has been helping me to deal with some fears (mostly of little living creatures) and insecurities in my life. The blessings I have received have far outweighed the trials! I would encourage everyone to become involved with the Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center. No doubt, you WILL be glad you did!
